Obituary for Melvin Huettemann
Melvin Huettemann, 89 of LaSalle passed away at 7:03AM on 6/20/2012 in Heritage Health in Peru, where he had resided for the past 2 weeks. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, 6/23/2012 at 10:00 AM in St. Hyacinth Church in LaSalle with Rev. Robert Rayson offficiating Burial in St. Hyacinth Cemetery Visitation will be on Friday, 6/22/2012 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM in Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle and 9:00 - 10:00 AM in St. Hyacinth Church Born on 12/27/1922 in Peru to William A and Ella (Croissant) Huettemann He attended Peru schools and LP Twp HS. Married Helen Wojciechowski on 6/9/1945 in St. Hyacinth's Church in LaSalle Mr. Huettemann worked at Westclox for 39 years until it closed, ending his career there as a tool designer. He then went to work for Catepillar in Pontiac in the same position until his retirement in 1988 He was a member of the Westcolx management club, the quarter century club, and men's choir. He served on the St. Hyacinth church parish council, was past president of the parish men's club, an usher, lector and served as president of the St. Stephen's society for over 20 years. He was a Life member of the K of C Calvert Council 792 in LaSalle. An avid fisherman, Mr. Huettemann belonged to the Isaac Walton League and was a 54 year member and past president of the Better Fishing Assn. of Northern, IL and in the club's early years he worked tirelessly to get the state of Illinois to accept control of the Hennepin canal from the Federal Government and develop it for fishing and recreation. It was during his tenure as president that the state agreed to take over the canal. He continued to hold office and serve on the board of the BFA for many years and most recently was involved with the kid's fishing program and was the club historian. He is survived by his wife Helen of 67 years, 2 sons, Robert (Kay) of Seatonville and Richard (Cathy) of Oden Ark. and twin daughters: Susan (Terry) Reef of Flora, and Sharon (Ned) Johnson of Frontenac KS. 1 Brother William Huettemann of Peru and 8 Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great-Granchild and 24 nieces and nephews Preceded in death by Parents, 1 Daughter-in-law Christine Chioni-Huettemann Memorials may be directed to the family for their favorite charities
