Obituary for Vivian Charlene Strozewski

Vivian “Charlene” Strozewski 79of La Salle died peacefully in her home on Sunday April 19 at 3:10AM. A mass of Christian Burial we be Thursday April 23 at 10:30AM in St. Hyacinth Church in La Salle. The Very Reverend Antonio Dittmer Pastor of La Salle Catholic Parishes will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday at the Burgess Funeral Home in La Salle from, 4 to 8 with a Scripture Service at 7:30. Additional visitation will be on Thursday from 9:30 until the time of services in the funeral home.
She was known most of her life as Charlene. In the later years she preferred to be called Vivian. She was born on March 6, 1936 to John and Vivian (Taylor) Faletti in Standard, IL. She was the seventh of eight children. She attended the elementary school in Standard and graduated from Hopkins TWP High School in 1954. She married Leonard Strozewski on April 7, 1956 in the Sacred Heart Church in Granville IL.
After a short stint as a school secretary Vivian found her niche in life through the profession as an Activity Director of long term care working with the elderly. Through the years she served the elderly at the former Care Inn in La Salle, and the Veteran’s Home in La Salle, where she retired from in 1999. She was instrumental in starting both the Activities and the Volunteer Services Dept at the Veteran’s Home. She belonged to St. Hyacinth Church in La Salle. Besides her work and dedication towards her family she gave her time to the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary, St. Hyacinth Altar and Rosary serving as Recording Secretary, former board member of La Salle Catholic School, former vice-chair and special feature coordinator at Illinois Midday connection, former volunteer at Lily Pads resale store, and Pads Homeless Shelter, The Girl Scouts for many years as leader, board member and recruiter.
Going on road trips to fairs and festivals were just one part of her favorite pastimes. Family camping trips when the children were younger to destinations such as Brown County in Indiana, the Spoon River Drive and the Covered Bridge Festival in Parke County Indiana, and in the State of Michigan. With each trip there were many happy hours spent on various beaches, swimming, hiking the shoreline, and climbing lighthouses. She developed a passion for counted cross stitch, crafts, and card making earning her several ribbons from the Sandwich Fair in Sandwich IL.
Survivors include; her husband, 4 daughters; Christine (Michael) Hubbard, Amy (Steve) Bowie, Lynne (Scott) Gruenwald all of Oglesby, and Karen (David) Glasgow of Montgomery IL 8 grandchildren; Maddie Hubbard, Emily, Claudia, and Abby Glasgow, Hunter and Sam Bowie, Felicia and Dominic Gruenwald, 2 step granddaughters; Kelly and Jillian Glasgow, 1 step great grandson; Jayden and 1 step great granddaughter Skylar, 1 brother Harold Faletti, a very special sister – in – law; Jean Faletti, 1 brother in-law Bernard Strozewski, Our heartfelt thank you goes to her devoted Caregiver Oyunbileg Zagd who provided loving care during her final weeks.
Preceded in death by; her parents, 4 brothers; Robert, Jack, Ronald and Tom Faletti, 2 sisters; Edith Loger, and Carol Wallin
Pallbearers will be her son – in –laws and grandchildren
