Obituary for Theodore "Ted" Slimko
Theodore “Ted” Slimko 95 of La Salle passed away Friday July 15 with his daughter by his side at 6:00PM in LaSalle Veterans Home in La Salle. A funeral mass will be Wednesday at 10 in St. Hyacinth Church in LaSalle. The Very Reverend Antonio Dittmer Pastor of La Salle Parishes will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Valentine Cemetery in Spring Valley. Visitation will be Tuesday in the Burgess Funeral Home in La Salle from 5 to 8. Additional visitation will be Wednesday in the church from 9 until the time of services. The Burgess Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Ted was born on June 21, 1921 in La Salle to Anton and Martha (Wojciehowski) Slimko.
He was a veteran and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He enlisted in the United States Air Corps on July 9, 1940. He served until October 1945 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He spent 32 months in the European, African, and Middle East theaters with the 1st Fighter Aircraft Assembly Squadron.
He married Virginia Kreiger in St. Patrick’s Church of La Salle on October 11, 1947
He worked for Westclox in Peru for over 30 years as plating specialist
He was a long time member of St. Hyacinth Church, The Catholic War Veterans of La Salle, and severed as a commentator for masses at St. Hyacinth for several years.
Ted is survived by:
1 daughter: Sharon (Mark) Duffy of Naperville IL
2 grandchildren: Kristin and Shawn Duffy both of Chicago
He was preceded in death by:
His wife, Virginia, (2011) 7 brothers, Anthony, Frank, Leo, Stanley, Edward, Raymond and Bernard. 3 sisters , Francis, Cecilia and Angela.
