Obituary for Rocco "Rocky" LaBattaglia
Rocco “Rocky” LaBattaglia 100 of LaSalle passed away peacefully at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle on June 10. Cremation rites have been accorded. Per his wishes no services will take place. The Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle is assisting the family.
He was born on May 27, 1922 in Peru to Anton and Philomina (Distasi) LaBattaglia.
He attended L-p High School and graduated in 1940.
He married Frances Kolczoski on July 1, 1950 at St. Valentine Church in Peru. They were married 59 years until her passing on July 31, 2009.
He served his country through the branch of the Army during World War II. He was in the South Pacific with the rank of Corporal. He was with the 718th tank battalion as a tank driver. He was wounded in the right hand, and right leg. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, and he belonged to St. Valentine Church.
He worked in St. Louis at a factory in which he was a machine screw operator. He was employed by General Motors in LaGrange IL. He retired from Englewood Electric Supply Company in Peru as the warehouse superintendent for 35 years.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed spending time in outdoors in his garden, fishing or hunting.
He is survived by his son: Michael of LaSalle and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by; his wife (2009), parents, and three sisters: Rose, Mary, and Della.
