Obituary for Robert Smith
Mr. Robert V. Smith 81, of Dimmick Township passed away peacefully with his loving family near his side at 4:07AM on Thursday, February 14, 2013 in his home. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 16, at 11:00 AM in Trinity United Church of Christ in LaSalle with Pastor Betty Delgado officiating Burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Visitation will be on Friday February 15, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle and Saturday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM in the church Mr. Smith was born on April 20, 1931, to Charles V. and Alvina (Jordan) Smith in Peru, Illinois. He married Judith Benedict in Trinity United Church of Christ on November 22, 1952. Bob attended a one room school in Dimmick and graduated from La Salle-Peru Township High School in 1949. Mr. Smith farmed in Dimmick most of his life. He also was employed by Carus Chemical Corporation, Manley Brothers, and Western Sand and Gravel. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He spent many vacations fishing in Wisconsin with friends and family. Bob was a loyal fan of local and Chicago sports teams and enjoyed following Illini basketball, football and Western Illinois volleyball. He was raised listening to and watching the Cubs and loyally followed them throughout his life. Bob also enjoyed gardening and took meticulous care of his fruit trees and vegetables. He was a member of the Local Union 150 and a trustee on the Dimmick Fire Department Board. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in La Salle. He is survived by his wife Judith (Judy) of Peru 6 children: Robert (Mary) Smith of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina Jill Smith of Marietta Georgia Gary Smith of Spring Valley James Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana Craig (Barbie) Smith of Dimmick Joy Smith of Yorkville, Illinois. 10 grandchildren: Jacob, Jessie, Bobby, Julia, Nicole, Elizabeth, Kileigh, Kloey, Hope and Heather 8 great grandchildren: Tanner, Brekan, Chase, Peyton, Claire, Reagan, McKenna and Charlee. 2 sisters: Arlene (James) Waytenik of Peru Myrtle McNeilly of Indiana 1 brother Curt Smith of Ohio many nieces and nephews.
