Obituary for Robert J Sonnenberg
Robert J. Sonnenberg 85 of Peru passed away Thursday March 5 at 7:11AM in Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru. A funeral mass will be Monday March 9 at 11 in St. Valentine’s Church in Peru. Msgr. Brian Rejsek Pastor of St. Valentine’s will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery in La Salle. A flag folding ceremony will be conducted by the LaSalle- Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group. Visitation will be in the church from 9 to the time of services. The Burgess Funeral Home in La Salle is handling the arrangements
He was born on June 18, 1929 to Phil and Mary (Spayer) Sonnenberg in La Salle
He was a veteran serving in the Army during the Korean War and was station in Japan.
He married Mabel Bryant on Feb 9, 1963 in Depue.
He was employed by Westclox and later by Sunstrand where he retired from in the field of being a Process Engineer.
He was a member of St. Valentine’s Church and was inducted in the Illinois Valley Baseball Hall of Fame on Jan 30, 1993
He is survived by; His wife
1 son: Jeff (Jeanine) Sonnenberg of Peru.
3 daughters: Lisa Tate of Springfield, IL, Julie Sonnenberg of Peru, Jodie Sonnenberg of La Salle
6 grandchildren: Jacob, Jonathon, and Jaclyn Sonnenberg, Trenton, Kaylin and Logan Tate.
1 brother: Gerald (Kathy) Sonnenberg of Athens GA
Preceded in death by:
4 sisters: Phyllis and Patricia Sonnenberg, Adele Galas, and Virginia Mrowicki
3 brothers: Frank “Moose”, Edward and Clarence Sonnenberg
The grandchildren will be the pallbearers
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for his favorite charities
