Obituary for Raymond Shannon
Raymond Shannon 89 of Utica passed September 16 at 12:09AM at St. Margaret’s Health in Spring Valley. Cremation rites were accorded. A private memorial visitation and service were held for him at the Burgess Funeral Home. The LaSalle / Oglesby Memorial Veterans Group conducted a flag folding ceremony. Burial will be at a later date.
Raymond was born on July 14, 1932 in Pontiac Il. to Raymond and Mary (Mulera) Shannon.
He served his country through the branch of the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He married Mary Burke on October 11, 1958 at St. Mary’s Church in Utica.
For over 50 years he was an Operating Engineer out of Local Union 150.
He cherished spending time with family and friends. After he retired, he took up the sport of boating and loved being on the water.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years.
4 Sons: Raymond (Kelly) Shannon of Yorkville, Steve Shannon of Utica, Robert Shannon of Fort Atkinson WI., and James Shannon of Utica.
2 Brothers: Art (Lynn) Shannon of Ottawa, and Don Shannon of Ottawa.
3 Sisters: Greta Bertrand of Joliet, Colletta Hilton of St. Charles IL., and Helen (Terry) Powell of Phoenix AZ.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, 3 Sisters: Rita Salz, Janet Salz, and Geraldine Burke., and 2 grandchildren: Kate and David Shannon in 1994.
