Obituary for Rafael "RJ" Salazar

Rafael “RJ” Salazar 57 of LaSalle passed away peacefully after a courageous fight at home, with his family at his side on Sunday July 20th. Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded, there will be no services. A Celebration of his life will be Sunday July 27th from 11 to 2 PM at FYA located at 126 Marquette Street, LaSalle. RJ was born on April 28, 1968 at St. Mary’s Hospital in LaSalle to Demetrio and Verna (Bracey) Salazar. His education traveled a long road starting at St. Patrick’s School LaSalle, to St. Bede Academy, to Western Illinois College where he achieved a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, and ended up at IVCC achieving a bachelors degree in becoming a registered nurse. He served his country through the branch of the Army. He married Sandy Mequish on April 27, 1996 at Grace Untied methodist Church in LaSalle. He was employed by the City of LaSalle as a telecommunicator. He worked for the City of Oglesby as a Police Officer. He was later a counselor for Passages in Peru. As a Registered Nurse he was employed by St. Margaret’s Hospital Spring Valley, IVCH Peru, Sheridan Prison, and Choices in Ottawa. He was a member of the IVCC Nurse’s Association, in which at one point he served as President. When not working he loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed playing all types of games with family members. He had a passion for reading and watching horror movies, old and new.

He is survived by his wife (Sandy) of twenty-nine years, his dad (Demetrio) of LaSalle, Two Daughters; Brianna (Danny Konczak) Salazar of LaSalle, and Brittany Salazar of LaSalle, and one step-son; Terry (Amber) Milby Peru. Two Brothers; Demi (Annette) Salazar of Princeton, and Brent (Kelley) Salazar of Dallas, TX. Two Sisters; Angie (Frank) Zupancic of Peoria, and Petrita Salazar of LaSalle. His Grandchildren; Vaniya, and Marceline Konczak, Cash Salas, and Creed Salazar. Step grandchildren; Dylan, and Cody Milby. Multilabel cousins, nieces, and nephews. His furry four-legged friends; Jax, Luna, and Willow.

He is preceded in death by; his mom (Verna) 2014, his stepson, Tommy Milby 1998, his cousin; Jim Lattin, and his grandparents.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for his favorite charities
