Penny L. (Bernard) Steele, 62, of Dimmick, passed away unexpectedly on February 27, 2023. A memorial mass will be Monday March 6 in St. Hyacinth Church. Reverend Thomas Otto Pastor of La Salle Catholic Parishes will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be in the church on Monday from 9 until the time of services. The Burgess Funeral Home in La Salle is handling the arrangements.
Penny was born June 22, 1961 in LaSalle to Robert Sr. and Shirley (Jaraczewski) Bernard. She married Dale R. Steele at St. Hyacinth’s Church in LaSalle on May 18, 1985.
She grew up and lived her entire life in Dimmick on her family’s land, Shaws Hill. Penny attended Dimmick Grade School and LP Township High school where she was active in band and Cavalettes and graduated with the class of 1979. She worked for many years at Hobbs in Spring Valley where she was also a Union steward, then later worked at Clover Technologies in Ottawa until she became a full- time caregiver for her father and mother.
Penny was deep in her catholic faith and was an active member of St. Hyacinth’s church and sang in their choir. She was also active in the Mendota Moose Lodge for many years and served as secretary.
She had many interests, was an avid Chicago Bears fan, had a deep love for her family and was a true friend to many. She enjoyed cooking and loved dogs. Her nieces and nephews were close to her heart and loved like her own. She loved being part of their lives and spoiling the next generation of young great nieces and nephews.
Penny is survived by her husband of 38 years and a brother Bob (Bobette) Bernard all of Dimmick. Additional survivors include her mother in law, Shirley Steele; sister in law Connie (Ken) Henry; brother in law Rodney (Dena) Steele; nephews Jacob (Sarah) Bernard, Zachary Waters, Joshua Steele, Dillan (Allison) Pakenham; nieces Samantha Bernard (Chase Norton), Amanda (Kody) Neurohr, Kati (Kevin) Clark, Kalli Steele (Cory Weiden), Kailee (Bill) Longmire. Great nieces and nephews Waylon, Tessa, Lola, Kase, Jaxson, Eastyn, Colton, Lyla, Noah and Cooper. Extended loved ones, the Mrowicki family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Michele Waters; brother in law Bob Waters; her father in law, Bob Steele and a niece, Taryn Pakenham.
Memorials in Penny’s honor can be directed to the family to be established at a later date.
