Obituary for Peggy Jean Kalemba

Peggy Jean Kalemba (nee Martin), passed away Saturday February 28th at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Ottawa, Illinois. Peggy was born in Magnolia, Illinois on January 22, 1930. She is survived by her daughter, Diane (Phil) Gassman; her three sons Michael, Edward and David (Michele); and eight grandchildren: Jacob, Kelsey, Nicole, Isaac, Emma, Walter, Aaron and Lillian. She is preceded in death by her husband: Edward; parents: Walter and Lillian (Arnold) Martin; and two sisters; Donna Lee and Kathryn (Currie). A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 7th, at 11AM, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home Chapel in Ottawa. Visitation will be in the Nursing Home Chapel from 10 until the time of the service. Peggy attended Swaney High School in Magnolia and following graduation in 1948, she continued her education at Methodist Hospital, where she completed her RN degree in nursing. Peggy went on to work at Hines Veteran Hospital in Maywood, Illinois. She met her husband Ed of 64 years while working as his attending nurse. The couple were married on July 21, 1956. Peggy took pride in being a mother, keeping the household in good order, and working in her garden. She was an avid "cat lover", enjoyed her winters in Arizona with her husband and while living in Peru, eating at their favorite restaurants. Peggy was always known for her positive energy, infectious smile and living by one of her favorite mottos "You can either laugh about or cry about it and I choose to laugh".
