Obituary for Mary Hopps
Mary Hopps, 89, of La Salle, passed away at 7:30 am, Friday, April 15th, peacefully in her sleep at the Mendota Lutheran Home.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 am – 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 with a funeral service at 11:00 am at Burgess Funeral Home. A private family burial service at the cemetery will follow. Her grandchildren will be Pallbearers.
Mary was born on September 14, 1926 in
La Salle to William and Sophie (Liss) Donarski.
Mary married Glen Hopps on December 28, 1946 in La Salle; they were married for over 50 years. Over the years, Mary worked at Westclox, La Salle Schools and the Housing Authority. She enjoyed gardening with her husband, baking, and spending time with her family and friends.
It is those great family moments that she enjoyed, that we, too, will remember; the taste of her famous homemade banana bread and the smell of her kitchen while she baked, the pretzels with cheese that were a favorite snack, the nervous looks she would give when the grandchildren played the ouija board, the comfiest pullout couch for sleepovers and the giggles we all shared, and the hidden upstairs playroom that every generation enjoyed. We will always remember her sitting next to dad/grandpa in their lawn chairs in the back of the house, the two of them in the garden together where the beans were so tall and the tomatoes so ripe and the quarters they would hand to the grandchildren after every visit. And we will never forget their goodbye ritual - the two of them always walking beside us down the the driveway - with the endless waves as you looked back and drove away - until you were out of sight. The smiles on their faces and these memories we will hold dear to our hearts. She is with dad/grandpa now and she is at peace - both are smiling and waving endlessly to us all from above.
Mary is survived by her four children;

3 Sons
Ronald (Marilyn) Hopps, of LaMoille;
Gary (Christine) Hopps, of Peru;
Terry (Cindy) Hopps, of Spring Valley;
9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glen in 1998, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, 1 son and 1 grandson.
The family of Mary Hopps wishes to thank the Mendota Lutheran Home.
