It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of M. Ann Schmoeger on November 25th at the age of 81. Ann will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Roger, at a graveside service on Saturday November 30th at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Utica. The Very Reverend Fr. Michael Driscoll Pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Utica will officiate. The Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle is handling the arrangements.
Ann was born on May 18, 1943 to John and Rita (Walsh) Pillion in Ottawa Illinois. It was in Ottawa that Ann met her life partner and best friend, Roger Schmoeger. The couple married on April 11, 1964 at St. Patrick’s Church in Ottawa and were blessed to share 59 wonderful years side by side until Roger passed away in February of 2024.
Ann spent many years as a devoted homemaker before entering a career in retail after her children were grown. Her passions in life were centered around her husband and family. She will always be remembered for the extraordinary meals she prepared for special occasions and for her love of gardening to grow the finest produce for family and friends. She and Roger were partners in every way. They built several family homes together, shared a love of boating and enjoyed getting away to their Door County cabin. In recent years, Ann felt blessed to spend quality time with her sisters and neighbors.
She is survived by her children; Jeff (Mary) Schmoeger of Lake Mills, WI., Dave (Terra) Schmoeger of Lake Tomahawk, WI., Susan (Mike) Kasperski of Ottawa, IL., and Julie (Ed) Shea of Oswego, IL. Sixteen Grandchildren; Casey, Amanda, Alex, Nick, Rachel, Danielle, Allison, Ryan, Stefanie, Lauren, Brendan, Mike, Megan, Tyler, Logan, and Macey. Five Great-Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. One Brother; Ron (Lynn) Pillion of Louisville, KY., Four Sisters; Rosemary (John) McDonnell, Diane Stoudt, Deb (Mike) Jarigese, and Denise Jessen.
Ann is preceded in death by; her parents, her husband (Roger 2024), two sisters; Phyllis Williams, and Julie Pillion, three brother in-laws; Jerry Klein, John Stoudt, and Bob Williams.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for Ann’s favorite charities.
