Laurie Swanson, 63, of LaSalle, passed away unexpectedly on September 4th at OSF St. Elizabeth in Peru. In keeping with her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13th, from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. at Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle.
Laurie was born on November 29, 1961, to Delmar and Norma (Baker) Kohr in St. Margaret’s Hospital, Spring Valley, IL. She married her best friend and the love of her life, Jeffrey Swanson, on October 27, 1978, at St. Joseph’s Church in Peru. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, family, and countless cherished memories.
Laurie’s greatest joy was her family. She loved being a devoted wife to Jeff, a proud mom to her three daughters, and “Grammy” to her grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to cheer them on at their many events - always proudly their number one fan. Laurie treasured time with family and friends, whether gathered at home, enjoying the sunshine at the beach in Florida, or shopping for her grandchildren—something she delighted in.
A lifelong dog lover, Laurie especially adored her “grand dogs.” She was also a loyal Cubs fan, faithfully wearing her “Cubbie Blue” and tuning in to games every summer.
She is survived by her husband of forty-six years, Jeff;
Her three daughters: Stacey (Michael) Gruenwald of Downers Grove, IL, Amy (Wally) Zukowski of Orland Hills, IL, and Carly (Ben) Hansen of Brookfield, IL;
Seven beloved grandchildren: Fiona and Liza Gruenwald; Luke, Paige, and Tyler Zukowski; and Leo and Oscar Hansen;
Two brothers: Tom (Mary) Kohr of Cottage Grove, WI; and Jack (Cindy) Kohr of Peru;
One sister: Kathy Kohr of Oglesby;
As well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Laurie will be remembered not only for her kind heart and the love she poured into her family, but also for the way she lit up every gathering. She was the life of the party, always ready with a laugh, a hug, or her signature line — “one more for the road.” Whether cheering on her grandkids, sharing stories with friends, or raising a glass with loved ones, Laurie brought warmth, laughter, and a little sparkle wherever she went. Her joy was contagious, and the memories she created will keep her spirit alive in all of us.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for Laurie’s favorite charities. Online condolences may be expressed at www.burgessfh.com.
