Obituary for Kent L Cherpeske
Kent L. Cherpeske 75, of La Salle passed away on April 19 at 4:09 PM in his daughter’s home in La Salle with his family by his side. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 29 at 11am in the Burgess Funeral Home in La Salle with Pastor Scott Fulkerson Officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in La Salle. A memorial visitation will be held in the funeral home from 9 am until the time of services. The Burgess Funeral Home in La Salle is handling the arrangements.
He was born on June 10, 1941 in La Salle to Laurence and Dorothy (Jagodzinski) Cherpeske. He married his best friend, Mary Lynn Waters on September 15, 1962 in La Salle.
He was employed by Illinois Valley Business Equipment, Inc. of Peru for over 20 years and Hadley Business Equipment of Rhinelander, Wisconsin for 10 years as a business machine service technician. Earlier in his career, he was employed by R.E.A. Express, and some of the early Illinois Valley automobile dealers such as Bill Vogel Chevrolet.
He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and his best buddy “Kodi”, his Yorkshire terrier. He was an expert in antique automobile restoration and owned many vintage automobiles over his lifetime. He was considered an expert on early American automobiles and was also very knowledgeable on the history of the Illinois Valley. He always made time to work on the cars of many family and friends. Since he was a young boy he enjoyed the Northwoods of Wisconsin which included spending time fishing on Lake Alice in Tomahawk.
He is survived by;
2 daughters: Laurie (Gary) Gbur of Utica, and Debra (Benny) Smith of La Salle.
1 son: Jeffery Kent Cherpeske of Highlands Ranch, Colorado
2 brothers: Alan (Roxanne) Cherpeske of Oglesby and Brian (Christine) Cherpeske of La Salle
1 sister: Lynn (Chuck) Heintz of Orlando, Florida
4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews and special friends.
Preceded in death by: his parents, 2 twin daughters (Kathy & Kay) in infancy and Mary Lynn (2010).
