Obituary for Karen Waclaw
Karen Waclaw 83 of LaSalle passed away peacefully December 18, 2020 at 9:37 AM in Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence in Elk Grove Village. A funeral service will be Saturday, December 26,2020 at 11:00 AM in the Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle. The Very Reverend Paul Carlson Pastor of LaSalle Catholic Parishes will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Hyacinth Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 26,2020 in the funeral home from 9:00 AM until the time of services.
She was born on May 21, 1937 at St. Mary’s Hospital in LaSalle to Wilbur and Evelyn (Engelhaupt) Jakowski.
She married Gerald “Jerry” Waclaw on September 15,1956 in Oscoda Michigan where he was station while serving in the United States Air Force.

After graduating high school, Karen attended/graduated from a beauty school in Chicago. She was a licensed hair stylist, who owned and operated a shop in her home. For 35 years she was employed by St. Bede Academy in the Business Office. She retired from there in 2010.
She was a member of St. Hyacinth Church. A past member of St. Hyacinth Mother’s Club, St. Bede Musicians Parent Association and St. Bede Mother’s Club in which she served one term as President. At home she enjoyed doing yard work, as well as cooking, baking, and enjoying a game euchre.

She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bulls fan. Most of all she cherished her time with family and friends including her furry four-legged grandchildren.
She is survived by:
2 Daughters: Cindy Cherpeske of LaSalle, and Beth (Jim) Kissinger of McHenry IL.
7 Grandchildren: Jeff Gedraitis, Dr. Jessica Welsh (Gedraitis), John Andrew Gedraitis, Nathan Petrik, Jacob, Chantille, and Donald Waclaw Jr.
Several great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by: her parents, her husband (1986) and her son Donald Sr. (2019).

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for her favorite charities.
