Obituary for Joseph 'Joe' July
Joseph “Joe” L. July, 82, of La Salle, passed away at 3:40 a.m. Oct. 8, 2014, in Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon Saturday in St. Hyacinth Church, La Salle. The funeral Mass will be immediately after, followed by the burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, La Salle. La Salle-Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group will conduct full military services at the cemetery. Burgess Funeral Home, La Salle, is in charge of arrangements. Joe was born Sept. 22, 1932, in Sublette to Joseph and Ella (Theiss) July. He graduated from La Salle-Peru Township High in 1950 and attended LPO Junior College for two years. On Sept. 10, 1955, he married the love of his life, Marian Frank, in Holy Family Church, Oglesby. She preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 1990. Joseph was employed by Bakelite, Elliott Lumber Co., Monarch Electric and Bearing Headquarters Co. from 1971 to 1996. Joe was an avid fisherman, loved baseball and was a lifelong Cardinals fan. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from December 1952 until December 1954. He was actively involved in many community organizations including being a former member of Resurrection Church, life member of Catholic War Veterans, Knights of Columbus Calvert Council 792, St. Stephen’s Holy Name Society, was a volunteer at the veterans home in La Salle from 1997 to 2008, a money counter for Resurrection Church for many years, a Eucharistic minister, member of the choir, pastoral care minister, St. Thomas More Church Divine Mercy Prayer Leader on Fridays and led a Bible study group in Utica. Joe is survived by one son, Michael (Kathleen) July of Blue Springs, Mo.; two daughters, Kathy (Mark) Smith of Oswego and Lisa (Robert) Burdick of Normal; his sister, Janet July of La Salle; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Joe was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for Masses.
