Obituary for John Rudolph Slatner
John Rudolph Slatner: 78 years old of Paddock Lake WI passed away on Friday June 25, 2021 peacefully at home with his wife of 54 years at his side. A funeral mass will be Tuesday June 29 at 11 at St. Mary’s Church in Depue. Reverend Kevin Creegan Pastor of St. Mary’s will officiate. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley. Visitation will be Tuesday in the Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle from 10 to 10:30.
He was born November 7, 1942 in Spring Valley, IL the son of the late John J. and Mary H. (neé Kovacevic) Slatner.
John graduated from St. Bede Academy in Peru, IL.
He worked at Kunkel’s Pharmacy in Peru, IL from age 13 until one year after graduating from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1966, a Phi Delta Chi brother. His Uncle Alfred inspired him to become a pharmacist.
College also led him to the love of his life, Joyce Kaye Miller. They were married on July 23, 1966 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Depue, IL.
John worked at Antioch Drug in Illinois for 10 years before buying his own pharmacy-Paddock Lake Pharmacy, Paddock Lake, WI in 1976, where he served the community for more than 15 years.
John was a member of many volunteer organizations, a member of St. Alphonsus Church, New Munster, WI and the Slovenian Lodge 2, LaSalle, IL for more than 60 years. John lived a full life. He enjoyed cruising and traveling with his wife, listening to George Jones, trap shooting, pheasant and duck hunting, fishing, cars of all kinds, NASCAR, watching Moe Miller & Sons racing in MO, reading, crossword puzzles, mowing grass on his John Deere tractor, but most of all, spending time with his family-especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include: his wife Joyce; four children: Mary (Scott) Halbleib, Angela (AJ) Bump, John Slatner, and Rudy Slatner; seven grandchildren: Benett, Josie, Davis, Lily, Effie, Ezra, and Radek; beloved Slatner and Kovacevic cousins, and extended family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles.
