Obituary for John R. "Paca" Konczak
John “Paca” Robert Konczak, 94, of La Salle, passed away February 21at St. Margaret’s Health in Peru shortly after arrival. A memorial visitation will be held Tuesday March 2 at St. Patrick's Church in LaSalle from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m. Reverend Michael Pica Parochial Vicar of LaSalle Catholic Parishes will officiate. A flag folding ceremony will take place after mass by the LaSalle Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group. The Burgess Funeral Home in La Salle is handling the arrangements.
John was born on December 2, 1927 in La Salle to John Edmund Konczak and Anna (Jones) Konczak. He attended La Salle- Peru Township High School and graduated in 1946. He went into the Air Force after graduation and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands for 2 years. He returned home to work as a mail carrier for the United Postal Service for the next 35 years.
He married Elizabeth (Betty) Brannan on Oct. 1, 1955 at St. Patrick's Church.
He loved playing baseball as a kid and golf later on, meeting his buddies for cards and coffee on Saturday mornings, and attending mass with his family every Sunday. He never missed his grandchildren’s' recitals, sporting events, graduations, and birthday parties, all while sharing these moments with his loving wife.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty), of La Salle; a son, Bryant Konczak of LaSalle, two granddaughters, Alexandra Konczak of Peru, Anna Konczak of Salt Lake City, Utah and two grandsons, Noah Konczak of Norfolk, Virginia, and Jack Konczak of Peru.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Konczak; his son Darren Konczak of Fort Worth, Texas; and his two sisters, Marcella Slinde and Helen Janz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for his favorite charities.
