He was born November 7, 1942 in Spring Valley, IL the son of the late John J. and Mary H. (neé Kovacevic) Slatner.

John graduated from St. Bede Academy in Peru, IL.

He worked at Kunkel’s Pharmacy in Peru, IL from age 13 until one year after graduating from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1966, a Phi Delta Chi brother. His Uncle Alfred inspired him to become a pharmacist.

John worked at Antioch Drug in Illinois for 10 years before buying his own pharmacy-Paddock Lake Pharmacy, Paddock Lake, WI in 1976, where he served the community for more than 15 years.

John was a member of many volunteer organizations, a member of St. Alphonsus Church, New Munster, WI and the Slovenian Lodge 2, LaSalle, IL for more than 60 years. John lived a full life. He enjoyed cruising and traveling with his wife, listening to George Jones, trap shooting, pheasant and duck hunting, fishing, cars of all kinds, NASCAR, watching Moe Miller & Sons racing in MO, reading, crossword puzzles, mowing grass on his John Deere tractor, but most of all, spending time with his family-especially his grandchildren.
