Obituary for Joan Groene
Joan M. Groene 89 of Ladd, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to many passed away Tuesday July 8 at 7:15AM with her loving husband Lou at her side along with the loving care givers of Garden Court in Manor Court in Peru. Cremation rites have been accorded per her wish. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:00AM Wednesday July 16 in Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Spring Valley. Reverend Robert Spilman will officiate. Burial will be private. A memorial visitation will take place from 9:00AM until the time of services in the Church. The Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle is handling the arrangements. She was born in Streator IL to Charles and Helen (Fallon) Heath on March 5, 1925. She was one of nine children. She married Howard Bauman on October 16, 1944 in Utica, IL. They were married 20 years until his passing on July 9, 1964. She married Floyd “Lou” Groene on June 25, 1973 and lived in Ladd, IL. She worked at Westclox in Peru for over 20 years. She belonged for several years to the former St. Anthony’s Church in Spring Valley. She was an excellent seamstress, quilter and creating her unique crafts. She was a long standing member of the “Quilters Guild”. She would make lap quilts and donate them to the children of St. Luke’s Children Hospital. Over the years she presented her family and friends with several homemade items to be kept as a remembrance of her. She and Lou worked at the homeless shelter for many of years. Her and Lou had a passion to travel and would do it extensively when they could. She is survived by; her husband Lou, 2 daughters; Madelynn “Maggie” and Curt Estwing of Rockford, and Margaret (Robert) Thacker of St. Petersburg FL 5 grandchildren: Amy, Nathan, Vincent (Kim) Thacker, Jason (Claire) Giglio, Emily (Keith) Wilhelms. 2great-grandchildren: Geneviene and Amelia Thacker 3 brothers: Paul, Phil, and Mac Heath, 1 sister: Patricia Schuller, several nieces and nephews She is preceded in death by: by her parents, 4 brothers (Sy, Gene, Dick, and Leo) Memorials may be directed to her family to be distributed to her favorite charities.
