Obituary for Jim Bray
Jim Bray 89 of Utica passed away peacefully at his residence on April 5 at 1:50PM. Per his wishes cremation rites were accorded.

Graveside services for JIM and MARY who passed on November 20, 2021 will be Saturday April 30 at 1:00PM, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Utica.



Pastor Karen Karczewski will officiate. The Burgess Funeral Home in La Salle is handling the arrangements.

Jim, one of nine children, was born on August 28, 1932 in Utica to Leo Patrick and Anna (Stremlau) Bray.

On February 21, 1953, Jim married Mary Carter at St. Mary’s Church in Utica.

He was employed by Millwright, and Union Carbide. He later was employed by the Village of Utica.

He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1775 in Utica and a Utica School Board member. Jim had the honor of being the King of Utica in the 1952 Centennial Celebration as well as a Volunteer Utica Fireman.

Jim and Mary loved to travel from a once in a life time trip to Ireland to trips throughout the country and spending many of their winters in Arizona.


Jim loved socializing in downtown Utica; driving around town in his 1930 Model A; sitting on his front porch swing and above all else spending time visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by:
4 Daughters: Gwendolyn Bray, Marjorie (Rick) Martin, Catherine (Jo) Hansen and Ellen (Ross) Wilson
2 Sons: James “Jim” Bray, and Donald (Sandy) Bray.
19 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Many Nieces and Nephews.

He is preceded in death by: his loving wife; Mary of 68 years.
1 Daughter: Amy (Cas) Eichenseer (2021)
His parents, 4 brothers, and 4 sisters.
