Obituary for Jerome "Jerry" Soens

Jerome “Jerry” Soens 84 of LaSalle passed away peacefully on Saturday October 25 at his residence. Per his wishes cremation have been accorded. A memorial service will be Monday November 3rd, at the Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle at 6:30PM. Rev. J.A. Small Parochial Vicar of Saint John Baptist de LaSalle Parish will officiate. Private burial at a later date. A memorial visitation will be Monday in the funeral home: 4:30 to 6:30PM

Jerry was born July 10, 1941 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator to Edward and Lois (Eggleston) Soens. On February 2, 1961, at Holy Rosary Church in LaSalle he married the love of his life and best friend, Shirley Edgcomb. For sixty - two years they created memories for the ages until Shirley past in 2023.

He was employed by Mertel Gravel in Peru for thirty-three years as a cement hauler. He was a member of St. Hyacinth Church. He was a member of the Teamster Union 722 of LaSalle. For many years he had a passion and given talent in being a custom car painter. He loved all challenges it could present. He enjoyed and was known as a die-hard Green Bay Packer fan. He was a member of the Brandy Wine Quartet. For forty-one years in the month of May, he and a few friends were dedicated being at the Indianapolis 500 for the race in Indiana. His greatest joy was being with family and friends. He was always proud, and followed his children and grandchildren in whatever they were doing.

He is survived by: his son; Erik (Ric) Soens of Cedar Point, IL. Four grandchildren; Hannah, Max, Ivy, and Bella. Several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by: his wife (2023), his daughter; Christine Uranich (2021), his parents, two brothers; William and Donald Soens, and one sister; Sue Ferretti.
