Obituary for Gerald "Jerry" Bejster

Gerald A. “Jerry” Bejster 86 of Granville, formally of LaSalle, with his family at his side passed away peacefully on February 12th at Manor Court in Peru. Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. With heavy hearts the family grieves the passing of a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. A private family graveside service will be later. The Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle is assisting the family.

Jerry was the second of three children. He was born on March 31, 1937 at St. Mary’s Hospital in LaSalle to Bernard and Theresa (Mankowski) Bejster

Jerry married the love of his life and best friend, Nancy Housby, on July 14, 1956 at St. Patrick Church in LaSalle. Jerry was employed for thirty three years at the Carus Chemical Company, in LaSalle.

He was a member of St. Hyacinth Church. He belonged to the Moose Lodge in LaSalle. For many years he enjoyed bowling in several leagues throughout the Illinois Valley area. In 2009 he was inducted into the Illinois Valley Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He loved spending time with family and friends. He and Nancy would always attempt to make all the activities their children, and grandchildren were involved with. He was proud of each one of them.

Jerry was survived by: his wife of sixty seven magical years.

Three daughters: Jolynn (Jay) Gabrielse of Peru, Gerrie Lynn (Bill) Skowronski of Hennepin, and Theresa Phelps of Granville.

Two sons: Mike Bejster of Utica, and Tony (Kristy) Bejster of Peru.

Eight grandchildren: Ashley (Ryan) Vance, Bradley (Danielle) Skowronski, Sandra Danielle Bejster, Sam Bejster, Kirstin (Josh) Rogers, Tanner Phelps, Ben Bejster, and Madie Bejster.

Four great-grandchildren: Riley and Sailor Rogers, Peyton, and James Vance.

One brother: Tim (Heidi) Bejster of South Carolina. Several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, and one brother Bernard “Benny” Bejster. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to any of the family members to be donated to his favorite charities.
