Gerald Martin Waszkowiak, 87, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024 in his home.
Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 11am at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in LaSalle, IL. Visitation will be in the church from 9am until the time of services. Burial to follow at St. Hyacinth Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the LaSalle / Oglesby Memorial Group.
Gerald was born on July 30th, 1936 to Martin and Theresa (Rogalla) Waszkowiak in LaSalle, IL.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia (Kofoid); his daughters Stephanie (Corey) Douglas and their children, Hailey, Jack and Delaney Douglas , Michelle (Dave) Heskett and their sons, Jacob, Tom (great grandson Wellesley) and John, Marti (Chris) Janson and their sons Will and Nathan, Janel (Andy) Moreno and their sons Mason and Max, his son Paul (Jennifer) Waszkowiak and their daughters Hanna and Brenna, and his brother Art (MaryAnn) Washkowiak, his sister-law Sharon Waszkowiak and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Martin, his mother Theresa (Rogalla), his brother Ronald Waszkowiak, and infant twins, Patricia and Gerald.
Gerald attended St. Hyacinth Grade School and LaSalle Peru High School. A proud veteran, he served in the US Marine Corps.
With a career spanning over 50 years, Gerald worked at the Westclox and began employment at American Nickeloid Metals in 1959, advancing throughout his career until retirement in 2005 as the General Manager, Vice President of Operations.
He volunteered his time to many organizations including, the United Way and Red Cross where he proudly donated over 30 gallons of blood in his lifetime. He served on many boards including the Peoria Diocesan Board of Education, St Hyacinth School and Financial Board, St Hyacinth Parish Council, LaSalle Library Board, Starved Rock Library Board, Prairie State Library Board, Girl Scouts Centralia Council, Tri-County Credit Union Board, chairman of the board of ANCO Community Credit Union and Pinnacle Inn Homeowners Association Board. Retiring from the NCI Works Board in April 2024 and American Nickeloid Board of Directors in May 2024.
He was a dedicated member of St. Hyacinth Church, serving as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Choir. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, rooting for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears, he was an avid reader, golfer and loved spending time with his family
Pallbearers will be his beloved grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the American Red Cross of Illinois Valley.
