Obituary for George "Dick" Tomsha
George “Dick” Tomsha 75 of La Salle passed away Saturday May 11 at 4:50PM in his residence. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday May 14 in the Burgess Funeral Home in La Salle at 2PM. Reverend Paul Carlson Pastor of La Salle Catholic Parishes will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. A memorial visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 12PM until the time of services.
He was born in LaSalle on November 16, 1943 to George E. and Mary (Worsley) Tomsha.
He is survived by his wife and soulmate Jeanette. He was blessed with three sons; Terrance of Colorado, Eric of Nevada, and Tobias (Martie) of Peru, 1 daughter; Beth (Bill III) Sherman of Tonica, five grandchildren; Carter, Alec, Riley, Hailey, and Mackenzie. The mother of his three sons Kathy. Two brothers and 2 sisters. Several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
George was a graduate of St. Bede Academy. Since his graduation he has stayed close with his fellow classmates by joining them at homecoming each year. At his 50th Class Reunion he received a certificate of joining the “Order of Golden Bedans.”
For several years he was employed as a Sheet Metal Worker with Local 1.
Throughout the years he relished attending all of his sons’ activities. He especially enjoyed coaching baseball. They never won a game but the team still made the trip for ice cream in the back of his shop truck. In the later years George and Jeanette cherished attending all events of the grandchildren.
George and Jeanette never passed up an opportunity to go out to eat and then dancing to the band “Picture This” later known as Snap Shot”. He had his two trusting companions always at his side. His dog Winston and later Watson. He loved a great cigar, good pipe tobacco, and sweets. To picture him and to remember him will be the pride he took in his handle bar mustache. The stories of George we hold dearly in our heart, including the pepper use of George, the plunger, to seeing him clean shaved and the many more will keep his memory alive.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for his two favorite charities.
