Obituary for Gary W. Gillard
Gary W. Gillard 63 of Utica passed away Sunday April 11. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be Saturday May 15 at Noon in the Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle. His nephew Shayne Higgins will officiate. A memorial visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 10 until the time of services. Cremation rites were accorded per his wishes. Everyone attending is asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Gary was born April 22, 1957 in West Salem Illinois to Clayton and Marie (Schonert) Gillard.
He attended Ottawa High School.
He was employed by Unimin Corporation in Utica for 42 years as an operator. He was a member of the Steel Workers Union 31G. He was a member of the LaSalle County Street Cars Group.
He enjoyed dirt bike and motorcycle riding. He especially enjoyed his annual trip with friends to Elkhart Lake Road America in Wisconsin for IMSA Racing and to Red Bud MX Racing in Michigan. His family and friends will sincerely miss him.
He is survived by:
Daughter: Theresa (James) Littlefield of Decatur Georgia.
Grandson: William born April 26, 2021
Sisters: Barbara (Paul) Jenkinson of Azle Texas, Pamela (Randy) Spencer of Streator.
Nephews: Laron Higgins of Fort Worth Texas, Shayne (Janis) Higgins of Azle Texas, Kyle (Susan) Higgins of Marble Falls Texas, Tyler (Megan) Wright of Streator, Trevon Spencer of Princeton and Jarrett Spencer of Streator.
Several Great Nieces and Nephews.
His beloved black lab and constant companion Cooper.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family to make a donation in his name to the American Cancer Society.
