Obituary for Frank A. Uranich
• Frank A. “Roch” Uranich, 92 of Peru, passed away February 28 at 9:44 PM at Manor Court in Peru. A funeral mass will be Wednesday, March 4 at 11AM at St. Joseph’s Church in Peru. Monsignor Richard Soseman, Pastor of Peru Catholic Parishes, will officiate. Burial will follow in Peru City Cemetery. The Peru Memorial Veterans Group will conduct full military honors. Visitation will be in the church on Wednesday from 9:30AM until the time of services. The Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle is handling the arrangements.
He was born on October 26, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Frank and Josephine (Zupan) Uranich.
His education was a traveled road starting at Oglesby Washington School, to LaSalle-Peru High School (1941-1945). His education was halted in March of 1946 where he enlisted in the Navy at Holy Cross College in Massachusetts. He was discharged June 1946 due to the ending of WWII. From 1951 to 1953, he was drafted in the Army. He did a tour of duty in Germany during the Korean War and was discharged in 1953. In 1955, he continued his education by going to LaSalle-Peru-Oglesby Junior College. After junior college, he enrolled at Bradley University in Peoria from 1957 to 1960 where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.
He married Nancy Thompson on November 27, 1954 in Holy Rosary Church in LaSalle. Frank and Nancy just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in November.
His work resume consisted of working at the Seneca Ship Yard in Seneca, Eicore in Oglesby, and as an engineer for 36 years at Westclox in Peru until its closing in 1980. He then went to the Rock Island Arsenal as an engineer for 11 years where he retired in 1991.
He belonged to St. Joseph Church in Peru, the Oglesby American Legion Post 237, and the Knights of Columbus in LaSalle #792.
He is survived by his wife; son Jeff Uranich (Peggy Miskowiec) of Peru, daughter, Sue (Todd) Rosenthal of Moline; 4 grandchildren, Keeley (Christopher) Schmid, Cory (Anne) Uranich, Ryan Rosenthal, and Mia Uranich; 3 great grandchildren, Khloe and Kinsley Schmid, and Gia Uranich; 1 sister, Josephine Pastor of Rockford, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Frances Kasperski & Ollie Kitts. Online condolences may be expressed at www.burgessfh.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for his favorite charities.
