Obituary for Edmund "Hoot" Wieczorek
Edmund “Hoot” Wieczorek, 85, of LaSalle, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 5, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, Il. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, June 18, 11:00 am at St. Hyacinth Church. Father Pica will officiate. Burial will follow the service at St. Vincent Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be 10:00 am, at St. Hyacinth Church prior to his service.
Edmund was born in 1937 to L. Walter and Laura (Witalka) Wieczorek. He graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School in 1955, attended Illinois Valley Community College, and transferred to Denver University with an athletic scholarship to play baseball. He graduated from Denver University in 1959, and later received his Masters Degree in Education Administration from Illinois State University. He began his teaching career in the LaSalle Public Schools. In 1967, he became the Superintendent of Waltham Township school. He retired from Waltham in 1994.
Hoot was an excellent multi-sport athlete during his high school and college years. When he no longer played, he volunteered as a coach and umpired local park district baseball games. He attended numerous sporting events for his grandchildren, extended family, and at LP High School. He also was a life-long St. Louis Cardinal fan who was quick to badger the many Chicago Cubs fans among his family and friends. Hoot also spent many days either fishing or working in his yard. He especially loved gardening. He kept busy in the “off months” tying fishing jigs, pickling cucumbers and fish, and making sausage. He loved to share the fruits of his labor with friends, neighbors and family. He was a member of Holy Rosary and St. Hyacinth Churches, and volunteered as an usher and collection counter for many years. He was also a member of the St. Stephens Society, the Knights of Columbus #792, and the IL Retired Teachers Association.
Edmund is survived by his son, Joseph Wieczorek of Brandon, FL, and his daughter Lori (Joseph) Siman of Kiawah Island, SC; six grandchildren, Bianca, Hayden and Abby Wieczorek and Kelsey, Matthew, and John (Jack) Siman; two brothers, Eugene (Clare) Wieczorek of New Port Richey, FL and Dan (Pat) Wieczorek of Peru, IL; a dear and special friend Barbara Gredzieleski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edmund is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joanne (Haramincich) (2017), his parents, brother Donald Wieczorek, sister Dolores Szewczyk, and sister Loretta Shevokas.
