Obituary for Dr. Clement "Clem" Jasiek

Dr. Clement Richard (CR) Jasiek, beloved brother, uncle, educator, and respected oral surgeon, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, at the age of 94 at the LaSalle Veterans’ Home, where he had resided for the past three years. During his stay, he was cared for with exceptional compassion by the staff, the Hospice team, and Fr. Gregory Jarzombek, OSB. Clement was born on August 18, 1931, in LaSalle, Illinois, the son of Vincent and Pearl (Kaszmierciak) Jasiek. He attended St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Elementary School and Saint Bede Academy, graduating in 1948, and completed junior college in 1950 before continuing his studies at the University of Illinois in Champaign. He was later accepted into the Loyola University School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1955. Following dental school, Dr. Jasiek proudly served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Misawa, Japan, for two years. After completing his military service, he conducted dental research at the University of Illinois Chicago before he pursued advanced training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Iowa. He completed his specialty training in 1962 and opened his private practice in the Illinois Valley. Dr. Jasiek also provided oral and maxillofacial surgical services to several area hospitals, including St. Mary’s, People’s, St. Margaret’s, and others throughout the area. His dedication to patient care and professional excellence earned him the respect and gratitude of colleagues and patients alike. After retiring from private practice in 1985, he continued to share his expertise with future generations of dentists by joining the faculty at Loyola University School of Dentistry, where he taught until the school’s closure in 1992. Dr. Jasiek was deeply committed to his community. He served for more than 20 years as a trustee for Illinois Valley Community College beginning in the 1970s, helping guide the institution through important years of growth and development. Clem was also an active volunteer and civic participant. He dedicated his time and energy to the Illinois Valley Dental Society, Rotary International of LaSalle, the I&M Canal clean up and restoration efforts, the Canal Corridor Association, and served as a docent at the Hegeler Carus Mansion until health challenges made it difficult for him to continue. Outside of his professional life, Clem had a lifelong passion for travel. He explored extensively throughout Asia, Mexico, and Europe. Among his favorite destinations was Manzanillo, Mexico, where he developed a love for deep sea fishing. During his many visits there, he formed a deep and lasting relationship with a local fishing family. Two sons of the family, Ricardo Michel and his brother Francisco, came to the United States to study at Saint Bede Academy while Clem provided a host family arrangement. This connection grew into a lifelong relationship with the extended family that remained close to him until his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Pearl Jasiek; his brother, Fr. Vincent Jasiek; and his sister, Emily (Jasiek) Raines. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Franklin (Nancy) Jasiek of LaSalle; his sister, Audrey Smudzinski of LaSalle; seven very close nieces and nephews; and 20 great nieces and great nephews, all of whom will remember him with great affection and gratitude. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Church in LaSalle on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the start of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be shared with Clem’s chosen charities. On line condolences may be expressed at www.burgessfh.com
