Obituary for Donna J. Slatner
Donna J. Slatner 86 of Peru passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Thursday July 25 at 2:56 PM at Manor Court in Peru. A funeral mass will be Wednesday July 31 at 10 AM in St. Hyacinth Church in La Salle. The Very Reverend Father Paul Carlson Pastor of La Salle Catholic Parishes will officiate. Burial will follow in Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley. Visitation will be Tuesday July 30 from 5 PM to 7 PM in the Burgess Funeral Home in La Salle. Additional visitation will be in the church on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of services.
Donna was born on October 3rd, 1932 in Oglesby to Frank and Victoria (Gorisek) Hobneck.
She married Alfred C. Slatner of Depue on July 10, 1954 in Holy Family Church in Oglesby.
She was employed by the Starved Rock Lodge Dinning Room for 13 years. She was a member of the Slovenian Union of America Br #24. She enjoyed being a housewife and mother. In her early years, dancing was her top priority. This included dancing at the Grand Ole Opry in Chicago, with notables Charlie McCarthy and Bob McGrath. Her family and friends meant the world to her. She loved planting flowers and decorating for the holidays. She was an avid bridge player. Her greatest passion was making memories with her granddaughters.
She is survived by:
2 Daughters: Mary Kaye (Larry) Happ of LaSalle, and Sally Jo (Simon) Kampwerth Jr. of Peru.
2 Granddaughters: Josie and Avary Kampwerth
Several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by: her husband (2014), her parents, 1 brother and 1 sister.
