Obituary for Donald Steichen
Donald Steichen, 89 of La Salle died on Tuesday, October 10th at Heritage Manor in Peru.
The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 14th at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church in La Salle with Rev. Ronald Margherio O.S.B. officiating.
The burial will take place at St. Vincent’s Cemetery in La Salle.
The visitation will be on Friday, October 13th from 4:00- 7:00 PM with a scripture service at 6:30 PM at Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle and Saturday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM in the Church.
Born on May 12, 1928, in Aurora, Illinois to Casper “Gus” and Mamie (Biltgen) Steichen.
Married Gloria Frieders on April 11, 1953, at St Mary’s Church, Aurora.
Graduate of: East Aurora High School; Illinois Institute of Technology with Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering.
Worked in Chicago for Illinois Inspection Bureau and The Baum Insurance Office before moving to LaSalle in 1957. Also worked for Duncan Insurance Office for 27 years and St. Bede Academy as originator and first Director of Planned Giving for 12 years.
Don was a Past Governor of LaSalle Moose Lodge; Treasurer of Chamber of Commerce; Lighted Way board; LaSalle Rotary Board; St. Vincent’s Cemetery Board; Bedan Club, and volunteer-Meals on Wheels.
Don was one of the first lectors of St. Patrick’s Church
Served in the Naval reserves from 1946 - 1954

Gail (Greg) Pyszka of Peru
Lynn (Dave) Wyzgowski of Chillicothe
Paula (John) Toraason of Peru
Mary (Tim) Burgess of Utica
9 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Great Grandchild.
Preceded in death by his Parents
Memorials may be directed to the family to be divided between St. Bede Academy and St. Patrick’s Church
