Donald J. Gahan 89 of Utica passed away unexpectedly on June 19 at OSF St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ottawa. A funeral mass will be Saturday June 24 at 11 in St. Mary's Church in Utica. Reverend Michael Driscoll Pastor of St. Mary’s Parish in Utica will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Utica. Visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 9 until the time of services. The Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle is handling the arrangements.
He was born on December 11, 1933 in Ottawa, Illinois to William and Alice (Burke) Gahan.
He married the love of his life and best friend, Charlotte Panneck on April 23, 1955 at St. Mary’s Church in Utica. They spent fifty two years together until she passed on November 22, 2007.
He farmed near Utica, and was an Auctioneer for fifty plus years.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #1775 in Utica. He enjoyed all the time he could spend with his sons, and their families. His friends were also dear to him with his high respect. A cold beer was never out of place to him. He was a true fan of Notre Dame Women’s Basketball. Going to a few games each year was on his agenda.
He is survived by:
Five Sons: Donald (Dee Dee Owens) of Utica, Tim (Donna) of Goodyear, AZ., Mike (Amy) of Mendota, Marty (Dorrine) of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, and Steve (JoEllyn) of Mendota.
Twelve Grandchildren, and nineteen Great-Grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, his wife (2007), one daughter in-law; (Glenda), and one brother; William.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Church in Utica, and OSF Foundation at Saint Paul’s Hospital in Mendota, and Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Ottawa.
