Obituary for Charlotte H. Klein
Charlotte H. Klein passed away January 8, 2020, in Peru, IL after a long and fulfilling life. Charlotte was born on July 11, 1929 in Hennepin, Illinois to Carl and Irma (Tondi) Byczynski. She moved to Utica, IL soon thereafter where she was raised and helped her parents farm. Charlotte graduated from LaSalle-Peru Township High School. After High School she married Herbert J. Klein on October 14, 1950 at St. Mary’s Church in Utica and moved to LaSalle where she resided her entire life. She worked as a telephone operator for Illinois Bell in LaSalle, at Westclox Company in Peru, and later in life at Arkin’s Drug Store in LaSalle and Utica. In her younger years she was an active member of the Illinois Valley Horsemen’s Association and spent many days riding and caring for her horses. Upon activation of her husband’s National Guard Unit during the Korean War she travelled with him to US Army bases in Georgia and California, returning home to LaSalle when he was sent to fight in Korea. Upon Herb’s return from the war she supported her husband’s long career at the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office and became a homemaker raising their son, Herb Jr.
Charlotte is survived by her only child, Herb, his wife Jill, grandchildren Matthew and Lauren, all of Peru, IL; brother Robert (Robby) Byczynski of Utica, IL; sister-in -law Gloria Byczynski of Ottawa, IL; Aunt June Pambianco of Waukesha, Wisconsin; nieces and nephews Sandy (Toby) Yeaple, Auburn, Washington; Beth (Rick) Schmitt, Sandwich, IL; Megan Byczynski, Utica IL; Brad (Lisa) Byczynski, Plainfield, IL; Bill Byczynski, Ottawa, IL; Jill (John) Pohar, Peru, IL ; and James (Marcie) Holland, Utica, IL. and numerous great nieces/nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Herb in 1986, her father and mother, her sister Rose Byczynski, and her brother Donald Byczynski.
Charlotte was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. Later in life she spent much of her time caring for others, including her parents, grandchildren, numerous friends and relatives. She was especially proud of and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, attending their many events and activities. If you were a stranger and met Charlotte, you were not a stranger for long. She befriended all she met with her outgoing, spirited, and charitable personality. Spending time with Charlotte meant you knew exactly where she stood on any matter, and you never left her company hungry or in need. Charlotte loved being with and helping others and will be greatly missed by many.
A Mass of Catholic burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday January 13, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Church, LaSalle celebrated by Father Gregory Jarzombek. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of her remains will be at Oakwood Cemetery in LaSalle immediately thereafter. A visitation will be held at St. Patrick’s Church from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Monday.
