Obituary for Charles "Chuck" Martin
Charles “Chuck” Martin 90 of Oglesby, formally of LaSalle passed away with his family at his side in his residence on December 20 at 3 PM. Visitation will be Monday December 23 from 4 to 7 PM in the Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle. A rosary will be recited at 6:45PM. A Graveside services will be at a later date.
He was born on August 19, 1929 in LaSalle to Anton and Francis (Testa) Martin. He attended L-P High School, LPO Junior College, and the University of Illinois.
He served his country through the branch of the Army in World War II and Korean War He served in Seoul Korea in the 7th INF. Division Artillery.
He married Betty Jean Robinson on October 20, 1951 in Rock Island, IL.
He was employed by the City of LaSalle Police Department from 1952 to 1978. He held the rank of Lieutenant at the time of his retirement. He worked for L-P High School for 23 years as the Security / Hearing Officer. He served on several boards throughout the community. They were; LaSalle Civil Service Commission, LaSalle Police Pension Board, 911 Oglesby Board, and the Task Force at L-P High School.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, and served as an usher. He coached basketball for several years at St. Hyacinth, and St. Joseph Schools in LaSalle. He was a lifetime member of the LaSalle VFW #4668. He was a member of the St. Stephen’s Society. He was a member of the Chiefs of Police Association, Illinois Benevolent Association, and the Illinois Police Association.
He is survived by: 1 Son: Thomas (Donna) Martin of LaSalle 1 Daughter: Tami (Robert) Greenfield of Ottawa.
4 Grandchildren: Christopher (Sarah) Martin of Oglesby, Curt (Jena) Martin of Oglesby, Shelby Hale of Peru, and Todd Hale of Mendota.
4 Great-Grandchildren: Aubrey Hale, Jerra, Clayton, and Logan Martin.
2 Step-Grandchildren: Hannah and Ben Floyd.
1 Step Great Grandson: Ayden Floyd
1 Brother: Junior Martin of Peoria. 1 Sister: Carol (Jerry) Brady of Naperville IL.
His Significant other: Sherry Lau
He preceded in death by: his wife (2006), his son (Terrence) 1990, parents, 1 brother and 1 sister.
