Obituary for Brunes "Bernice" Turczyn
Brunes (Bernice) Marie Turczyn, 93, of LaSalle closed her eyes on this world and breathed her last breath in the company of her family at her home on Sept. 25th, 2019 at 9:45 a.m. from heart complications.
Visitation will be Burgess Funeral Home on Monday Sept 30th from 4-7 p.m. with a recital of the rosary by Sister Norberta of Holy Rosary at 6:45 and visitation at St. Valentines Annex on Tuesday Sept. 26th at 10-10:30 a.m. along with a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. and followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Valentines Church, Peru with Father Gregory Jarzombek officiating. Burial will follow at St. Hyacinth Cemetery, LaSalle. Celebration of Life will be right after the Cemetery Service at Burgess Memory Lane Lounge 860 Bucklin St. LaSalle .
Bernice was born Wednesday February 10th, 1926 at 7 a.m. on a very cold day with snow on the ground in LaSalle to Vince and Marie (Samolinski) Pelka. Bernice married Chester T. Turczyn on August 10th 1946 in St Hyacinth’s Church LaSalle and have been married for 73 years. Chester is currently 94 years old and resides at the LaSalle Veterans Home.
Bernice was educated at St Hyacinth’s Grade School and LaSalle Peru High School. Bernice worked early in life at Kresge’s Department store, Illinois Bell Telephone Co., and Westclox Co., before becoming a stay at home Mom and raising five children. Bernice was a member of St Valentines Church, a Eucharistic Minister, helped in cleaning the church, a member of the Family Circle Club, and a member for the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary of LaSalle.
Bernice loved to help the Catholic War Veterans in all their local and State conventions and events along with dancing to the bands afterwards. She helped with the corn beef and cabbage dinners, chicken dinners, all to raise monies for the organization. She loved hosting and cooking for all the family gatherings for every holiday, birthday, and anniversaries. She also loved taking care of her flowers on their five-acre country property for the last 45 years. This was the third and final home they built together.
She is survived by her husband, Chester of LaSalle; four children, Allen (Cheri VanValey) Turczyn of Dalzell, Dale (Janice Nogay) Turczyn of LaSalle, Tim (DeeAnn Jost) of LaSalle, Michael (Wendy/girlfriend) Turczyn of Granville. She was preceded in death by her daughter Linda (Lou) Turczyn (car accident) and her brother Al Pelka. Bernice had 5 Children listed above, 10 Grand Children, Tom (Lori) of LaSalle, Jim (Shannon) Turczyn of Peru, Bill (Renee) of Peru, Dan (Jamie) Turczyn of Utica, Cari Ann Ptak (Ted) Banning of Nice France, Luke Ptak of Fort Lauderdale Florida, Alisha Turczyn of Franklin Park IL., Casandra Turczyn of Eagan Minn., Justin (Donna) of Cedar Point, Ryan (Brittany/fiance) of Cedar Point, and 12 Great Grand Children, Kelsey (Casey) Swingel of Utica, Abigail Turczyn of Washing D.C., (Shayla, Gianna, Aria Rose, Turczyn of LaSalle), (Kylee, Kara, Turczyn of Peru) Cooper Turczyn or Utica, Paris Caldwell of Dallas Texas, (Blake, Kensley, Turczyn of Cedar Point) Rya Turczyn of Cedar Point and 3 Great Great Grand Children, Shae Swingel of Utica, Kayden, Juliana Caldwell of Mark IL./Texas.
Pallbearers will be some of the Turczyn Grand Children Tom, Jim, Bill, Dan, Justin, Ryan and Luke Ptak.
