Obituary for Alfred C. Slatner
Alfred C. Slatner 85 of Peru passed away Wednesday April 30 at 8:35AM in Manor Court in Peru, with his family by his side. Visitation will be Sunday May 4 in the Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle from 3 to 6. Additional visitation will be Monday from 10 until the time of services in the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be Monday May 5 at 11 in St. Joseph’s Church in Peru. Father Harold Datzman OSB will officiate. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley. The Peru Veterans Memorial Group will conduct full military rites. Alfred was born on Sept 19, 1928 in Depue, IL to John and Josephine (Koplinick) Slatner who were both born in Austria. He was a graduate of the University Of Illinois College Of Pharmacy. He served as a Corporal in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Donna Jean Hobneck on July 10, 1954 in Holy Family Church in Oglesby. He was a Pharmacist for over 50 years. He was part owner of Kunkel’sDrug Store, and he owned and operated Formhals -Purity Drug Store in LaSalle until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Past President and member of the Kiwanis, was on the board of directors of Colonial Trust and Savings Bank in Peru, a member of the Lucky 7 Duck Club, and the Illinois Pharmacy Association. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 59 years, 2 daughters: Mary Kaye (Larry) Happ of LaSalle, Sally (Simon) Kampwerth Jr. of Peru 2 granddaughters: Josie and Avary Kampwerth of Peru, 1 sister Josephine Korsmeyer, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters. Pallbearers will be; John Slatner, Kevin Lust, Jim Essl, Mark Hobneck, Kurt Downie, Larry Happ, and Simon Kampwerth Jr. Memorials may be directed to the family for his favorite charities.
