Obituary for Eleanor Forbes
Eleanor Forbes 82 of Peru passed away July 21 at 5:55 AM in Aperion Care in Spring Valley. Cremation rites have been accorded. Per her wishes there will be no services. The Burgess Funeral Home in LaSalle is assisting the family.
Eleanor May Forbes was born August 29th, 1935 in Ottawa Illinois to Ira T Borland and Edna (Frazier) Borland. She was raised in Utica and graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School in 1954. Eleanor married Robert H Forbes (US Navy active duty) on November 9th, 1958. Mr. & Mrs. Forbes resided in Texas, Michigan and California. Eleanor and Robert Forbes had two sons, David and Daniel.
Prior to having children Eleanor worked as a private investigator in Austin Texas. She had many interests and particularly enjoyed RVing with her family in the California desert during the Winter months and venturing into the Laguna Mountains in the Summer months. Eleanor and her sons returned to the Illinois Valley in 1969 with her husband to follow upon his retirement from the Navy in 1972. As a homemaker, Eleanor enjoyed canning produce from her garden and was an avid baker. She enjoyed watercolor and oil painting.
Eleanor was instrumental in the startup of Frame ‘N Art, a local custom picture frame shop in Lowell. In 1984-1985 she was also a partner in the Lowell Country Store. In 1988, Eleanor began working in a local restaurant as a prep cook until retiring upon turning 65. Once retired, Eleanor enjoyed traveling with friends and made multiple trips to Florida to enjoy the beaches and visit family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings; Richard Borland, Jacqueline O’Connell, and Wayne Borland. Survivors include her former spouse Robert Forbes of Pensacola FL, her sons; David (Donna) Forbes of Florida, Daniel Forbes of Peru IL and two grandsons; Adam Forbes of Strawberry Plains TN and Nathaniel Forbes of Pensacola FL.
